Nasturtiums planted in the vegetable bed. The leaves and flowers taste delicious and peppery in salads.

Ragged robin and other wild flowers in a wooden planter. The bees really love this flower!

Herb Robert loves shady spots, is a great self seeder, but never invasive.

The edibles, herbs and plants for pollinators garden. The compost bin is a vital part of this garden. Made from reclaimed wood, and surrounded with two Rosemaries, a Buddleia, Holly, Comfrey and Ivy. Wood chip from a Sussex sawmill covers the ground. It is a great all weather surface and there is zero rainwater run off.

The raised vegetable bed and cold frame are made from reclaimed wood. Broad beans (which taste amazing raw!) are planted next to Sweet Yellow Clover which flowers for months, well into Autumn and is absolutely loved by bees.

A raised pond with a Water Marigold in flower.

Buddleia Summer Beauty is fantastic for pollinators and its small size means that it is easy to deadhead and prevent seed dispersal.

Native wild flowers, including Oxeye daisies, with the lovely orange flower of the Calendula in the background.

A parsnip plant is left to go to flower, which is loved by hoverflies.

The Ribwort Plantain flower. You can make a mushroomy flavoured stock from the seed heads, and the leaves are fantastic for treating wounds.

Plant lots of Rosemary! The bucket in front of the compost heap contains a Comfrey fertiliser tea (Comfrey leaves left to soak in water for a couple of weeks).

Marigolds planted in the vegetable bed, and self seeded Borage which is fantastic for pollinators. Some flowers take up to 24 hours to refill with nectar, Borage takes 2 minutes!

Raised beds for herbs and vegetables and log lined border for Lavender, Rosemary, Salvia and Ivy. Back planter with Red Campion, Foxgloves, Nettles, Lemon balm and mint.

The raised bed is made from left over wood from an attic conversion, the middle bed is made from pallet wood, and the back border planter is made from a scaffold plank from the Wood Store, Brighton. All treated with Linseed oil.

The view from the window.

The front garden before. It was unloved and unused.

The herbs and veg are growing! This bed has provided salad greens, such as Rocket, Land Cress and Perpetual Spinach throughout the winter. Wild Honeysuckle is growing up the back wall. It is excellent for wildlife providing nectar for pollinators and berries for the birds in the winter.

The bed is ready to go! The simple path is made from reclaimed paving slabs.
